The project is due on Sept. 27th. The students came home with their assignment sheet on Friday, August 23rd. If you have any questions regarding the project, please let me know.

Beginning today, August 19th, math homework will be assigned on Mondays and is due on Thursdays. It is our hope that having math and reading homework due on the same day (Thursdays) will help with any confusion. We check homework answers together as a class at the end of math. Mrs. Tomasik and I will not be giving the students a grade for their homework, nor will we be marking their work to show that it has been checked. Beginning next week, we will be entering homework as effort into our grade books that you can view online.
Picture day is this Thursday, August 22nd. Picture order forms went home with students last week. Your child can bring in the completed order form as well as money for the photos any day this week, including Thursday. Students will still need to wear their uniforms on picture day.
Students will be coming home with Scholastic book order forms within the next couple of days. These book orders can be ordered online through Scholastic. The book orders need to be put in by September 5. The website, class activation code and welcome letter are found on the "Home" tab under Important Forms and Documents.
Yesterday and today, the cluster took the Galileo assessment. We met with our Block 1 students (homeroom students) for math yesterday and with the Block 2 students (Hardt and Frazier) today. The students we met with today were given their homework for Monday. However, Block 1 students will receive their homework tomorrow (Thursday) and it is still due Monday.
Galileo testing is this week. Students will be tested in math on Tuesday and reading on Wednesday. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast. We had a very busy week! Please be sure to ask your child all about the Sparky Compact, personal narrative, Daily 5 reading activities, and Daily 5 math games we worked on this week!
Today, students received their first assignment for homework in math. They will have two days to complete it and return it on Wednesday. On Wednesday, they will receive their next assignment and it is due back the following Monday.
Please note that one side is for the student's grade level and the back is a grade level above. We ask that students attempt their grade level, but understand that some of the concepts may not have yet been taught. In addition, we know that some of our students are ready for a challenge, so we ask them to complete their current grade level and attempt the back (next grade level). Students are responsible for returning their homework on the assigned days. We will check homework in class and it will count towards their effort grades. Students that do not attempt or turn in homework will be required lose their recess for that day and will need to work on it during that time. If you have any questions about homework, please feel free to contact Mrs. Cohen or Mrs. Tomasik. Just a reminder of a few things that are due on Monday, August 5th:
1) Brown Bags - Please refer to the directions stapled to students' bags. Students will be sharing their bags during the first part of the week. All items will be brought home. 2) Materials for decorating book boxes - Items may include magazine pictures, stickers, foil, pictures, scrapbook paper, or anything else that can be glued on a box. Well, we made it through the first week! It was so great getting to know the students and hearing about their summers. I'm excited to see what amazing things they will accomplish this year. We've even experienced what it will feel like when we meet as a cluster of 120 students!
I also wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to all those parents who were waiting in the pick up line. We know that it took quite a while this week. We are working on making the process go more smoothly. Thank you for your patience! |
