Galileo testing will take place on Monday, January 27th and Tuesday, January 28th. If you know your child will be absent, please let us know as soon possible so we can make arrangements for testing. Thank you!
On Friday, February 14, we will be having a Valentine's Day party. Students may choose to bring in valentines to distribute. If so, they must bring one for EVERY CHILD in their homeroom. Students may also bring in additional cards for their friends in the other three homerooms. A list of the students in our class was sent home today.
We are also asking for donations of food, drinks, and paper products. Please click the link below to view our sign-up. www.signupgenius.com/go/20F054DAEAE2FA13-valentines Dear Parents, The 3/4 cluster will be starting a new management plan on Monday. We are starting this to reinforce our cluster rules which are 1. Be Smart 2. Be Kind 3. Work Hard. We also want to make them take ownership for their behaviors and learn organizational skills. The students will receive 5 tickets on Monday that they will put their names on. If they still have 5 tickets on Friday, they will receive 15 minutes of recess. Each ticket is worth 3 minutes of recess, so for example, if they only have 2 left on Friday they will get a 6 minute recess, and if they have 0 left they will not get the extra recess. They will lose tickets if they are not following directions, coming prepared to class, not getting homework turned in and in general not following our cluster rules. If they lose their tickets we will not give them a replacement ticket. It is their responsibility to keep track of them and stay organized. Just a friendly reminder that there is no school on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Enjoy your time off!
A note from Mrs. Hardt: Since we had such great success with our last service project, why not continue the concept of service for others going right!!! We are declaring this semester 'A Service to our Community Semester!!!' Our next project is to help those in need, especially those who go without the basic necessities of life.
We are asking for donations of some used items like blankets or kitchen items (i.e. pots, pans, can opener, small nonelectrical kitchen gadgets). The need at this time is for used extra large men's clothing or jackets as well as new items such as canned food, toiletry items, towels, paper goods and bottled water. These items can be brought in to my classroom at any time. I will distribute them to those in need at the end of January. Let's show how much we care about others by helping them out in such a small way!!!! A note from Mrs. Hardt: I cannot tell you how wonderful it feels to be sending off 120 blankets to Dr. Stu Nelson in Wasilla, Alaska today. Our goal as a school was 50 blankets. Obviously this goal was surpassed, thanks to all of you who sent in extra material, those who came in to help sew together scrap material or teach students how to sew and those of you who just took the time to help us!!!! THANK YOU!!! I knew we had a fabulous community of students and parents but how wonderful it is to see it in action!!
Student Council will be sponsoring a 100th day t-shirt spirit day. The 100th day is Jan. 24th. Students are encouraged to decorate a t-shirt with 100 items and wear it on Jan. 24th. A prize will be given to the most creative boy and girl in each classroom. They need to wear their uniform bottoms.
ASU ROCKS!!! WOW what a great turn out on the fleece donations. Since the blankets are 36" x 36" we have some pieces left over. I was hoping to get a few brave volunteers to come in and help the kids sew together the scraps. It is basically two pieces together and one seam. I have the needles and thread. I am looking to mail the blankets on Thursday of this week, so anyone wishing to come in during the day from now till then is more than welcome!!! Really it will be FUN!!!
During the break I discovered a great service project that I would love to incorporate into our classroom. The project involves the Iditarod race in Alaska. The Iditarod is sometimes called “The Last Great Race on Earth.” Every year, it begins in Anchorage during the first weekend in March. Each team of 12 to 16 covers the distance to Nome in approximately 9 to 17 days or 1,100 miles. The project involves purchasing, cutting and sending fleece blankets to the dogs for protection in the cold. The goal is to have at least 15 blankets per checkpoint, plus plenty for the Millennium Hotel and Nome dog lot holding area for dogs dropped off early in the game. The project is simple: You make blankets out of 3' X 3' pieces of fleece- no cutting or sewing- just one single piece of fleece per blanket. I have priced fleece and Joann’s is the least expensive. From Jan. 12-18 Blizzard Fleece is 3.99yd. One yard is needed, and solid colors are preferred. They also tend to have coupons online to print. The blankets need to be mailed by Jan. 17th in order to get there on time. Therefore, the fleece needs to be here by Jan. 13th. We will be using our math skills to measure and cut the fleece. The project itself offers so many skills we will be covering in Language Arts and Geography—it is going to be a great learning project. Our goal is to send at least 50 blankets from our cluster. Let’s DO IT!!!! Thank you, Mrs. Hardt and the ¾ Cluster Team |
